Nightwatching by Peter Greenaway. Release in Italy
There is evidence in Rembrandt’s celebrated painting of the Nightwatch to suppose that it might be a painted record of a shooting, a murder in fact. You can see the rifle being fired before your very eyes. This film, written and directedby Peter Greenaway, and premiered in competition at the Venice Film Festival, examines the murder from Rembrandt’s point of view, amassing the evidence, looking for the motive, identifying the killers, pointing the finger, uncovering in fact a conspiracy to murder way back in 1642.
